jarrett hill defies labels, as descriptors only scratch the surface. what truly defines jarrett and his work is a deep, unapologetically Black and queer conviction centered on uplifting voices that go ignored and challenging popular conventions.

jarrett's savvy and talents span mediums and transcend genres. since 2024 he has toured the nation with his live game show based on his NAACP Image Award-winning book Historically Black Phrases: From "I Ain't One of Your Lil' Friends" to "Who All Gon' Be There? (Ten Speed Press/Penguin Random House), a humorous exploration of Black language co-authored with Tre'vell Anderson. jarrett is also a 2025 graduate of Harvard Divinity School, where he earned his Master’s in Religion and Public Life and debuted his first solo art exhibition, an artist lives here, exploring the intersections of queerness and the Black church tradition. Today, jarrett channels these passions through trblmkng., a boutique enterprise encompassing his work as a creative artist, speaker, writer, host, and media consultant. Through trblmkng., jarrett has provided media expertise to major networks and brands from CBS to Warner Bros., while also preparing to launch several new projects in 2026–from his forthcoming digital video  series, “the jarrett hill show”; to a Historically Black Phrases-inspired card game; to his new merchandising label, hillmarks, where his artistic expression produces one-of-a-kind stationery, houseware and fashion accessories.

an award-winning journalist and host by trade, for more than two decades jarrett has captivated expansive audiences and commanded large stages, while also facilitating intimate conversations and amplifying stories that often don’t get heard. a veteran of nationally syndicated radio, cable news and streaming digital programming, jarrett’s work has been featured in mainstream outlets like The New York Times, NPR, Variety, NBC News, CNN, and Channel Q. additionally, from 2020 to 2024 jarrett co-hosted the hit podcast FANTI, named one of Apple Podcasts’ favorite shows of the year, where he and co-host Tre’vell Anderson dove into the “complex and complicado” obsessions and questions driving the culture. previously, jarrett served as an adjunct professor at the University of Southern California's Annenberg School of Communication and Journalism, and spent six years at the helm of the National Association of Black Journalists of Los Angeles (NABJLA). Under his leadership, NABJLA doubled in size and led the coalition that got California’s Senate Bill 98 signed into law, helping create freelance and full-time work opportunities for Black journalists at major outlets across the country. a bonafide media expert, jarrett also knows how to shape and break news—like in 2016, when he identified Melania Trump's plagiarism of Michelle Obama's 2008 DNC convention speech, making global headlines that earned him a spot on the Ebony Power 100 list and features in The Los Angeles Times and The Hollywood Reporter.

quintessentially Californian, jarrett resides in inglewood, where his love and passion as a creative artist continues to thrive. no matter how you experience his work, expect jarrett to take up space and invite others to do the same: to question what’s right, what’s true, and who gets to decide. in everything he does, jarrett seeks to inspire us all to be “angelic troublemakers”– to give more kindness, goodness, and humanity for those whose “backs are up against the wall.”
